A Very Short Political Observation
From my hospital bed
I’m in my third day of post-op recovery, so if this very short observation is inappropriate, blame it on lingering anaesthesia brain — and perhaps M. le Mayor’s (also the hospital therapist) torture contraption. (see yesterday’s update)
I feel compelled to make this observation though:
Mexico has elected its first woman president — a landslide win. The New York Times just published a list of Claudia Sheinbaum’s accolades.
She has a Ph.D in energy engineering, participated in a United Nations panel of climate scientists awarded a Nobel Peace Prize and governed the capital, one of the largest cities in the hemisphere.
Meanwhile, more than half of American voters want to elect a convicted felon with a red baseball cap.
“When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. […] They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people” (Trump Time Magazine 2015).
How about a cross-border exchange? Mexico gets MAGA man who pledges to drill, drill, drill and the US gets a climate scientist with no criminal record. And its first woman president.
OK, I’m through. This post-op recovery period is exhausting . . .
