I wasn’t sure what to think when I got the first e-mail from Medium inviting me to be a featured speaker on Medium Day. I thought perhaps it was a mass mailing to all members, subsequently learned that it wasn’t, and filled out a questionnaire. A few weeks later, I learned that my idea had been accepted. Today’s e-mail:

Thanks for submitting your idea for a Medium Day panel, and we’re thrilled to let you know you’re confirmed to host your session, Are You Ever Too Old To Try Something New?, from 10:30 — 11AM ET on August 12.

Some great news: over 13,000 people have signed up for Medium Day so far. But your friends and followers are probably the most likely people to want to hear about your expertise, so now is the time to share the news with your networks.

I’m pleased and flattered and all that good stuff and also more than a little bit nervous. I will talk about why I decided at 68 to leave my family and friends in the US and move to France — alone. A country where I knew no one and barely spoke the language. I’m still here ten years later and writing about living in two foreign countries — France and the Country of Old Age.

At 68, I started a new chapter in my life: I moved to France. Alone. It turned out to be quite the page-turner. Still is — even when age insists on a part.
