Dear Tony,

While Mastodon sounds interesting, I would be even more interested to know a little more about what's going on with Medium and how/whether this new venture will impact the platform.

I wrote recently about the frustration I feel in trying to get explanations for the apparent tweaks, algorithm changes etc. that I've noticed since last September. In my article, I applauded Medium for e-mailing me the good news--increased followers, responses etc.--but lamented the fact that I'm left in the dark when (despite the good stuff) my earnings take a sharp drop. Response from other writers confirmed I'm not alone.

But instead of endlessly speculating with other writers about what's going on, it would be fantastic to get the official word via e-mail, or perhaps in a publication. Something along the lines of:

"........it's not you (your crappy writing, boring subject matter, your lack of involvement, etc.) The reason your earnings/reads/distribution etc. may be fluctuating is due to changes we're making to the platform. Here's a rundown on a few of the major ones and a look at what you can expect over the next few months . . ."

Anyway, just an idea, a request for a little glimmer of light into Medium's communication darkness. Meanwhile, best of luck with Mastodon.
