Excellent and relatable piece, Gary. I, too, feel the gradual creep of old age. What I could do at 70 is more than I can do at 80. Yet I celebrated my 80th last October in Rome—walking all over the city. At the moment, I’m traveling in Spain with my mid fifties daughter and son-in-law. We’ve walked miles every day for the past ten days and, except for hills and carrying bags, I’ve managed to keep up with them. ‘You don’t look or act your age,’ my son-in-law said. I admit I felt chuffed at that. ( I have a bionic hip and knee!)Yet, the gradual decline is inevitable. As you point out, it happens to everyone. Accept it and enjoy the time you have.
