Funny! I felt a little witchy, even scary, on Halloween. I always forget Halloween is celebrated here in France, it always seems like an American holiday. So I never have treats to hand out when the doorbell rings. Mostly, I wonder who the hell is ringing my doorbell and forcing me to run down three flights of stairs and angrily fling open the door--only to find a sweet little kid in costume. I hope I didn't scare him too badly.

At 68, I started a new chapter in my life: I moved to France. Alone. It turned out to be quite the page-turner. Still is — even when age insists on a part.
