God, what a nightmare scenario. Great story though, I love your balanced perspective and the recognition that it was also a nightmare for the mother.

I remember a flight with my daughter, who was about two at the time and I couldn't stop her crying. My frustration was made worse by the pointed comments from the woman in the seat behind me. It's a difficult situation for everyone.
