I do completely agree with your sentiments about happy songs and the resulting vile hatred. I once wrote--and sold to a magazine--an article about my intense dislike of the song: Don't Worry, Be Happy.

The words and peppy tune irritated the hell out of me and it gave me great creative satisfaction to list all the many things that didn't make me happy--including that song.

Sometimes vile hatred feels good.
