Not a downer story, heart felt and relevant. I now regret my lack of financial planning earlier in my life. Living in France is easier, for me at least, than it would have been in the States. In fact, even if I wanted to return to the States to live (I don't) I couldn't afford to live there--especially California where I lived for many years. Hugs Jo Ann, at least we have an on-line home with friends in similar circumstances.
