Since joining Medium in 2021, I’ve published almost 400 stories — I know, a puny number compared to you more prolific types — on topics from travel and food to health and politics. Mostly though I write about my life in France. I moved here almost eleven years ago at the tender age of 68. I wanted to see if I was too old for a new adventure.

I’m happy to say I wasn’t. Moving to a foreign country, especially alone and not speaking the language, isn’t easy at any age and there were a few early obstacles, but it’s been an incredible experience. I’d like to think my story might inspire others to follow their dreams — whatever they may be — and, most of all, to not think of age as an insurmountable obstacle.

I’m now writing the chronological story of my early years in France, ultimately I hope to publish it as a memoir. The seven chapters I’ve written so far were all published on Crow’s Feet where I’m also an editor. If you’ve missed any, you can catch up by checking out the links below. I will add new chapters, usually once a week, to the list as they’re published.

Stay tuned and many thanks for dropping by.

At 68, I started a new chapter in my life: I moved to France. Alone. It turned out to be quite the page-turner. Still is — even when age insists on a part.
