Super article, as always, Linda. I agree, it's addictive. I realise that when I obsessively check my stats each morning before even reading the NYT. My other thought though is that I don't know many writers who are writing for much more than peanuts--regardless of their source of writing income.

I once worked out how much per hour I was paid to write books for Harlequin. It's not something you want to know.
