Terrific article. At age 70 something, with three marriages behind me, I had absolutely no desire for anything remotely like a live-in relationship.

I've never minded being alone, in fact I'd decided that's exactly what I wanted.

Then I met someone who felt exactly the same way. One of the first things he said to me was, "I hope you're not looking for another husband." "God no," I said.

That was almost four years ago, three of them spent living together--through Covid lockdown and in a small village apartment at the top of three flights of stairs. We, romantically, call it our garret. And we both agree we've never been happier.
