Thanks, Klara, yes, I did feel alone at times--that's when the internet was a lifeline--Facebook, Skype, etc. But I was fortunate enough to meet some interesting people and make a few friends which made an enormous difference.

I started writing on Medium last November--left the States in 2013. I had a small pension, if I'm not too extravagant I manage quite well. Far easier to get by on less here in France than it would be in the States. In fact, I don't think I could get by there now--even if I wanted to return, which I don't. Are you thinking of making a move . .. feel free to ask away. For me, it was a positive decision, one I've never regretted.

Not sure whether you've left for Africa yet, if not Bon Voyage, I look forward to reading your stories.
