Thanks, Michelle. Great point on the gist of the story. I think that's why jotting down a few words doesn't always work for me. The 'nocturnal' ideas often come in a rather cryptic form--a few scattered bones as it were--and in the morning, I can't work out how to assemble them into any kind of story. Or, I don't really have the gist of the piece.

As I'm writing this, I'm thinking that perhaps I've slightly misunderstood your comment--but it's helped with my own understanding of what goes on.

Could be an interesting Zoom discussion for a roundtable of Medium writers . . .
