Thanks so much for pointing me towards your story, Paul. At 78, I relate to so much of what you write. I feel, in the last year or so, this creeping, grudging acceptance of the fact that I do indeed live in the land of old age. But I've resisted--an understatement--accepting that I belong.

I was probably in my early twenties when I read Sailing to Byzantium. Sitting in a university classroom, what did I care then about a country for old men? And today? It's an entirely different story.
