That Pink Beret-Wearing Tourist Who Felt Lonely In Lyon?
Maybe she should have gone to Paris
Yesterday I wrote about an American tourist called Angela who recorded a TikTok video in which she tearfully described her disappointing experience in Lyon. The French were cold and indifferent, she said and she was made to “feel bad for not knowing their culture and speaking their language.”
Angela said France made her cry.
Among the responses to her video was one from a Parisian who suggested that Angela should have gone to Paris instead of Lyon.
Had she made our capital her first stop she would have bumped into other like-minded and beret-wearing young tourists. They could have joined her on the Emily in Paris tour and shared selfies with captions about the wonderful time they were having in “Gay Paree”.
Although it sounds nightmarish to me, Angela might indeed have had a better time on an Emily in Paris tour. According to the French journal Le Monde, a new study by France’s national cinema found that four out of five foreign tourists decide to visit Paris after seeing a movie or TV series filmed in the city.
