Well you did manage to write a very funny story, Carole--although I understand your frustration.

Years ago, feeling much as you do at the moment, I rented a cabin on an isolated beach in Oregon. Such a perfect writerly set-up, it was almost a cliche.

Could I get any writing done? Nope. Too busy taking long, solitary walks on the deserted and picturesque beach and gazing soulfully out at the ocean from my cabin window.

Sometimes we manage to write even under less than ideal circumstances--as you've just illustrated.

At 68, I started a new chapter in my life: I moved to France. Alone. It turned out to be quite the page-turner. Still is — even when age insists on a part.
