While my small French garret (I just like that word) is considerably more cluttered--books, papers, plants and . . . stuff--it offers me the sort of contentment you describe. I lived here alone for several years, before my partner moved in. Friends were sure we'd look for a bigger place. But we're perfectly happy here--I love small spaces. Great story!
